Band This Week: June 3 – 7, Int. Jazz performs on Tuesday, Term 4 Requirements, etc.

Hi All!

Thank you to my students for an incredible week and weekend filled with music! No doubt many of you have an EXCELLENT start on summer tans after the last two days of gigs. So we are clear, a face-only tan (because you wore a band uniform all weekend) is STILL a tan. 😉 Sincere thanks to all the PARENTS who helped make these gigs possible by driving kids, hauling gear, carrying water along the parade route, checking uniforms, and just supporting our performances!

Congratulations to all the organizers and participants in Music Council’s Coffee Night #2! Lots of talent and creativity were on display in the theatre with a super supportive audience!

Emergency Jazz (Alex A, Naomi, Jordan, Owen, Serena, Bella, Levi) performed for the Limelight Youth Artist Showcase at Cedar Hill Rec. Centre on Friday night! Way to go, folks. Also, congratulations to all the Reynolds artists (Gabe T, Nadia L, to name a few.) with works in the gallery.

The Tea Party Parade performance was an EXCELLENT way to end our 52nd season of local parades! The group played SO WELL and looked fantastic (look at those lines and diagonals!). Congratulations to our trombone players – nice work on the SuiSLIDES (no injuries were sustained. BONUS!) We were ranked 2nd by the Tea Party Judges – Congratulations to Oak Bay High School and Spectrum Community School for their bands’ excellent performances as well!

This morning’s performances at the Gutsy Walk were great! I couldn’t be happier! Outdoor gigs are always challenging – it was windy and and a little chilly at times (bet you never thought I would say THAT at a gig) but all three jazz bands and the drumline worked and played like rockstars! Thank you for being so organized, flexible, and helpful. Bravo, team!

While the amount of gigs, the number of ensembles, the trips, and community are part of our culture at Reynolds, THE HEART of the Reynolds Bands, Choirs, and Strings is: KIDS LEARNING, KIDS HAVING FUN, AND KIDS WORKING HARD & MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER! That was FULLY on display last week as always. I am proud of you and proud to be your teacher! !

We are now in the home stretch but there is a lot going on still! Please keep practicing and stay in the loop with social media, this website and Ms. Kerr’s posts. Keep supporting each other and being the exceptional human beings that you are. Don’t forget about your academics and remember to FINISH STRONG!

Cheers,

Jamie Davis
