Band This Week: Oct 29-Nov 2. Dates To Note List, Term 1 End

Band This Week: Oct 29-Nov 2. Dates To Note List, Term 1 End

Hi Everyone!

What a week! Thank you for great rehearsals, lots of laughs, and some great performances!

Bravo to Senior Jazz Band and Drumline for performing this afternoon at Wicked Victoria! Thank you for taking on this new gig (Sr. Jazz) so early in the year. Thank you to Stefan Niemann for his help transporting gear to and from the show. A big thanks to everyone that came out to listen and cheer the band/drummers on.

Thank you to Music Council for organizing and hosting a fun movie night on Friday night in the band room! It was great to see so many out to watch “The Nightmare Before Christmas!”

Attendance at Blue Band and Green Band rehearsals has been getting better and better since the beginning of the year. We had almost the ENTIRE Grade 9 and 10 cohort (approximately 120 kids) out for rehearsal on Friday AM (PLUS Grade 11s Colby and Emily to help out our low brass!). Thank you! Keep it up – the concert bands are starting to sound really tight!

Our first full Band Concert (All concert bands and all jazz bands) is our annual fall concert in the school gym. Please note the change in date: November 6 (6pm Call Time, 7pm Start). Your assistance in sharing the poster (created by Andrea deLange) is greatly appreciated! Running orders will be available this week. Our first concert of the year also includes a fabulous bake sale! Please consider baking something to support this fundraiser. Items can be dropped off to my office on the day of the concert.

Thank you for your patience as this took quite some time to prepare. My hope is that this will give students and families an idea of how many performances and events and give students ample time to book off work, etc. to be in attendance for concerts.

Hard copies will be distributed to every student in band classes this week. Please take as many as you need. Senior studnets – give them to your employers ahead of time so that work does not conflict with our performances. Thank you!

As always, there will be changes that pop up throughout the year. We will try to provide as much notice as possible in the event of a detail change.

5.) The Mikado – Concert Opportunity

One of our Grade 11 students – Alexis Hutchinson – will be performing in the Gilbert & Sullivan Society’s production of “The Mikado.” Alexis won an audition last spring and has been rehearsing with the G&S Society for a number of months. Yay Alexis!!
