Choir & String Updates, April 29

Choir & String Updates, April 29

Hello everyone, I hope you had a great weekend! Here we are at the start of MAY. We have A LOT of upcoming events scheduled in the music department, so please ensure you are attending all rehearsals and are consistently practicing…we have a lot to prepare for!

First of all I want to extend a huge congratulations to our Reynolds Vocal Jazz students that attended festival at Oak Bay this weekend. It was a long day filled with a lot of learning and music making and I am so proud of what these students accomplished this weekend. To check out their performances please check our our fb pages, Reynolds Secondary Twitter and Instagram. This is a performance I will never forget and I am so excited to see where we can go heading into the end of the year. Thank you for your professionalism, hard work and talent. Seeing you all come together as a group and make music that meant something to you is what this is all about. Let’s keep this momentum going and grow even stronger as an ensemble! I am a VERY proud teacher:) Thank you to all the parents, friends and families that came out to the concert on Saturday, it was an incredible evening of jazz music featuring ensembles from Oak Bay, Belmont and Reynolds! A special shout out to our clinicians and guest artists form Edmonds Community College, Soundsation! They were incredible with our students and put on a fantastic concert, we are SO INSPIRED!

Here are your updates for the week!

Monday:

I will be away in the morning doing BCMEA Honour Vocal Jazz auditions at Belmont Secondary.

No Vocal Jazz after school. Take a deserved after school off after a long 9+ hours of learning and performing on Saturday. I will have some new music and possible performance opportunities to go over with you on Tuesday at lunch.

Tuesday:

7:15-8:20 Concert Choir, please ensure you are on time and ready to sing, we have a LOT of new music to work on!

11:17-12:12 Vocal Jazz, please be at rehearsal so we can rehearse Poison Tree and choose some new rep for the end of the year. Let’s discuss festival as well, what you learned and where you want to go from here.

3:25-4:45 Chamber Choir, please be on time and ready to sing. I will be listening to the beginning of Wandrers…I will pull some octets to hear, so please know the first 14 measures. Please use the Goodnight Moon practice tracks posted on this website to practice and prepare for this rehearsal.

Wednesday:

7:15-8:20 Strings, please be on time and ready to play, we have a lot to prepare for for our May 21 performance for the Strings Orchestra Finale at UVic. If you miss due to Marching Band you MUST practice and rehearse what we have worked on in class.

3:25-4:45 Concert Choir, please be on time and ready to sing. Attendance for after school has not been great the past few weeks, our ensemble can not grow and improve without consistent attendance and practice.

Thursday:

7:15-8:20 Chamber Choir be there ON TIME this week. Our ensemble is capable of making great music but it will take total commitment from every one of you, so please work hard, practice and stay focused!

11:17-12:12 Strings, be on time and ready to play. We had a lot of missing players last week and your final grade will be affected if you have poor attendance.

Friday:

Extra help available if needed. Please attend Music Council at lunch:)

Saturday:

May the Fourth Be With You Dance at Cedar Hill. This is a fundraiser for both Reynolds and Cedar Hill Music Programs. It is a 19+ event with adult beverages, silent auction bidding items and a killer live band featuring myself and Mr. Davis (that’s right we are musicians too). Please see us this week for tickets ($20, which will include a free drink ticket) and please sign up to volunteer if you are able to help out that evening! It is sure to be fun, so bring all your friends and come and have a great night out! Check out the posts on this website for more information!
