CHOIR/STRINGS/MUSICAL Updates for Oct 5-9

CHOIR/STRINGS/MUSICAL Updates for Oct 5-9

Hello all,
We got through another great week – thank you to everyone who participated, donated or were involved with the Cops for Cancer campaign this year! Our school raised over $32,000 which goes towards cancer research and sending kids to Camp Goodtimes – I am so proud to be a Roadrunner!
As for what is coming up, Musical Theatre rehearsals are in full swing now on Monday and Thursday from 3:15-4:30 in the theatre. Please ensure you have your mask and comfortable clothes for when we have dance rehearsals. Students will need a 3 ring binder to keep their music and scripts for the show, please bring these for Monday! I had a blast doing a bit of a read through on Thursday and meeting with everyone, this is going to be a fun group to work with, be prepared for the musical contract and for a lot of paperwork to come your way!
Senior Choir will be recording a Ubi Caritas for Remembrance Day in FULL UNIFORM. I am still waiting for a filming day at the end of this month, so stay tuned and do a preliminary search for your ALL BLACK uniform and blue scarf or tie please:)
Halloween filming opportunity – ALL CHOIR, VOCAL JAZZ and STRINGS students will be filming a piece for a Halloween performance I am putting together at the end of the month:) That way families can check out what we have been up to the first month back and enjoy some creepy/fun music!
Choir masks are in! Each singer will be provided a clear plastic mask for singing this week. This will make breathing easier than the standard cotton mask due to the built in chin rest (the mask can’t be sucked into your mouth – yay) and it will allow me to give feedback on vowel shape and uniformity when singing – you will also be able to hear more clearly. A lot of things I can not see or correct when not wearing clear masks. You will still be spread out 6 feet apart on all sides and you are only permitted to wear these masks for Choir or Vocal Jazz – no wearing them in hallway areas, moving around the classroom (say to get a pencil or music) or classrooms as they are meant for being 6 feet apart facing forward. These masks will stay in your bag and you will need to wash them after each rehearsal with soap and water…it is quick and very easy to clean. I will go over all rules and safety regulations in classes as well:)

PLEASE REMEMBER TO ALWAYS THINK AHEAD ABOUT SAFETY PROTOCOL. “HAVE I WASHED/SANITIZED MY HANDS? DO I HAVE MY MASK ON WHEN REQUIRED TO DO SO? AM I IN AN OPEN AND SPACIOUS ROOM WHEN NEAR OTHER PEOPLE?” – this includes instrument storage, when one person is in the room allow them the time to get their things and exit before you enter. BE PATIENT, BE KIND and know that we are doing this to keep one another safe and that should ALWAYS be our first priority. So please always think ahead, for the most part you have all done a wonderful job on this, but I like to send out a reminder just so it is at the forefront of our minds – mine included!
