Hello all, I hope you had a good weekend!
Firstly, thank you to each one of our students for a great start up last week with choirs and strings getting back into the swing of things – I am SO EXCITED to start this last quarter with new and challenging music. All ensembles have made strides in their musicality and playing/singing and I can not wait to see where we can go in this final quarter of the year! This is the last week of Quarter 3, so finish strong and get everything finished up!
Our Music Program Bottle Drive is happening this Saturday, April 17 from 9-3:00, please drop off your empties to us that day! Student Volunteer sign up here —–> https://volunteersignup.org/TE8CF

Some reminders THAT CHAMBER CHOIR AND CONCERT CHOIR STARTS THIS WEEK (along with Marching band), there is one hiccup in this week for Concert Choir so please read the schedule below! Please be on time and prepared for your classes – plan ahead and make it happen! Always talk to us if you need to miss or have an issue. And as always if you are sick DO NOT COME TO CLASS.
As I am sure you are all aware COVID-19 cases and exposures are the highest they have been in quite some time on Vancouver Island. We have done a great job with safety in our school and I implore everyone to not let up now, we must be vigilant during this time. This means remembering to social distance properly in our school and in our community, you must wear a fully covering mask at all times at school and wash and sanitize your hands as much as possible. We can do this! Your safety is our #1 priority, so please follow the rules and we will be fine.
As many of you may have heard, the Victoria School District budget cuts were released on Friday with some pretty devastating news for music programs around Victoria. They are proposing HUGE cuts to our Elementary and Middle School Music programs throughout Victoria in order to cover a 7 million dollar deficit. This is taking away musical opportunities for our kids and community and impacting jobs of incredible educators around Victoria. If you are in our program it is likely because you had a GREAT middle school program and teacher, if these are taken away pretty soon there won’t be kids in the high school programs either. The district is looking for feedback on what the community thinks is important for kids in school and we hope that if you or someone you know has been impacted by music that you will fill out this survey by Monday, April 12 by 4pm.
