CHOIR/STRINGS/VJ Updates for April 6-9

CHOIR/STRINGS/VJ Updates for April 6-9

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone had a relaxing and safe Easter weekend! It was nice to ease back into the end of the year schedule with a couple of short weeks and a long weekend! It is important to take some time for yourself and get out to enjoy some warm weather while it lasts!

Thank you to all the students that auditioned for Chamber Choir last week (very impressed), we have a great group this year and we will be starting up next week (this week will be regular Junior and Senior Choir so that everyone gets the memo on the new schedule).

Here is our 2021 CHAMBER CHOIR: click here —> IMG_4022

Thank you to my amazing crew and cast that came to help take down the musical set and clean out the costume closet- that was a huge job and we got it done last week – YOU ARE THE BEST!

As I am sure you are all aware COVID-19 cases and exposures are the highest they have been in quite some time on Vancouver Island. We have done a great job with safety in our school and I implore everyone to not let up now, we must be vigilant during this time. This means remembering to social distance properly in our school and in our community, you must wear a fully covering mask at all times at school and wash and sanitize your hands as much as possible. We can do this! Your safety is our #1 priority, so please follow the rules and we will be fine.

A few important things to note regarding SAFETY MEASURES in our MUSIC DEPARTMENT:

CHOIR SINGERS will remain 6 feet apart facing forward during rehearsals (as we have been all year) and are required to wear a fully covering mask (must cover nose and go under the chin fully) during our rehearsals – clear choir masks are now qualified as shields so will not be worn during our rehearsals. I have medical masks that can be worn in rehearsals as they come away from the mouth more, making it easier to breathe. I am also ordering plastic pieces that go underneath your regular mask to make it easier for students to sing (masks will not be sucked into mouth while breathing).

-As the weather gets warmer, we can hold more rehearsals outdoors. I will ensure we do this as often as we can – it will be fun and it will be safe to space out and sing outside!

IF YOU DO NOT FEEL WELL, DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL. This goes for students and teachers. Check social media often, just in case there is a change for the day. Do your Health Check every morning, and know you will always be excused if you are absent due to illness. It is always better to be safe.

-As per usual, students must wash/sanitize hands as they enter the Band Room and we will fully sanitize all chairs/stands as students exit. We will take breaks and have the back doors open for fresh air circulation in our classroom.

I am confident in the safety measures we have in place for our Music department, as we have been running with proper distancing and masks all year. We will continue to safely sing and make great music together, and I am so excited to make more great music with you all. Let’s have some fun, be creative and end the year with fantastic music – WE GOT THIS!
