Choir/Strings/VJ Updates for May 25-28

Hello all,

I hope you all had a great weekend and got to catch up on some much needed rest and relaxation. A few changes to the schedule this week due to the long weekend. Our concerts are coming up, PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK THE DATES AND ENSURE YOU CAN BE THERE FOR YOUR TEAM! Let’s push through these next few weeks, work hard and have fun! We have great concerts on our hands as long as we put in the time together – that includes AT HOME PRACTICE!

Let’s have a great week of music making – remember we start on a TUESDAY!



Please anticipate that the performances will:

  • Occur outside of regular school hours.

  • Be hosted at SD61 facilities that can accommodate large groups.

  • Be 100% livestreamed in real time.

  • Be Recorded for publishing and later viewing on YouTube.

  • Students/Staff WILL follow ALL COVID safety protocols outlined by our school (fully masked, 6 feet apart, ventilated space, no outside visitors within the venue, students will hand sanitize when entering and exiting the space)

  • Include as many elements of our traditional year end concerts as possible.

(Due to current PHO guidance, there will be no families allowed in the audience.)


JUNE 8TH Mandatory DRESS REHEARSAL at St. Dunstan’s Church, 1806 San Juan Avenue, from 5:30-7:30PM- Dress rehearsal, no uniforms needed, just bring your mask, a water bottle and your music.

JUNE 9TH Mandatory CONCERT recording at St. Dunstan’s from 5:00-8:00, we will record Concert Choir and Chamber Choir – FULL UNIFORM of all black dress clothes with Blue Scarf or Tie along with a black binder for your music – Students will watch one another perform, due to COVID restrictions there will be no outside audience members allowed. 



Wednesday, June 16th Jazz Nite Concert from 4:00-9:00 at the Oak Bay Dave Dunnett Theatre, 2121 Cadboro Bay rd. Call time 4:00 for Senior and Junior Vocal Jazz students. PLEASE wear your full uniform of all black dress clothes with a pop of colour.


CONCERT BAND AND STRINGS CONCERT- this date has been changed due to the venue double booking, sorry!

Thursday, June 17th Strings Concert from 4:00-9:00 at the Oak Bay Dave Dunnett Theatre, 2121 Cadboro Bay Rd. Call time is 4:00 for all Strings students, in FULL UNIFORM of ALL BLACK dress clothes. You are responsible for bringing your instrument and music to the venue. Bassists, I will borrow or bring basses for you!

Monday, May 24

Victoria Day, please do some practicing to make up for lost time today! Concert are coming up in just a few short weeks!

Tuesday, May 25

7:30-8:30AM CHAMBER CHOIR, in the BAND ROOM – BE ON TIME WITH A BLACK BINDER AND A PENCIL:) We are going on a short field trip this morning- we have a lot to cover so be on time and let’s get to work!
11:30-12:15 SENIOR VOCAL JAZZ, in the BAND ROOM singers with Thomas. Please bring a lunch so you can eat quickly before we get into new sections of our music.
VJ SINGERS, PLEASE DO SOME PRACTICE AND REVIEW BEFORE TOMORROW, here is a link to listening and practice tracks:
3:00-4:00PM CONCERT CHOIR, in the Band RoomBe on time and ready to sing! Instrumentalists for Riversong please come after school ready to play!


Wednesday, May 26

11:30-12:15 JUNIOR VOCAL JAZZ, please meet in the band room at LUNCH, please bring your lunch and we will keep chipping away at your music!
3:00-4:15PM CHAMBER CHOIR,  in the Band Room. PLEASE BE ON TIME with ALL of your music and a PENCIL. We have some new sections to learn in Soul’s Been Anchored to finish. Memorization and new standing arrangements to be tried today as well!

Thursday, May 27

7:30-8:30AM CONCERT CHOIR, in the BAND ROOM – BE ON TIME WITH A BLACK BINDER AND A PENCIL:) Looking at our  music and doing a lot of singing together, be ready and be ON TIME!
11:30-12:15PM STRINGS in the BAND ROOM. Please be on time with your instruments ready to play! Let’s get some work done – everyone please remember to attend!! Ensure you got some practicing done before I see you – we need to make up for lost time on Monday.

Friday, May 28

12:30-1:30 SENIOR VOCAL JAZZ, in the BAND ROOM – we need to do some rehearsal with FULL RHYTHM SECTION in order to prepare for your Fifth Street Clinic on Monday. Please make every effort to attend this rehearsal.
