Reynolds Band Start-Up Information

Good Evening!

I hope this finds you all doing well! For those of you that I have not met, my name is Jamie Davis and I am proud to be the band director at Reynolds Secondary School. Welcome to the Reynolds Music Program! I look forward to working with you and getting back to making music! The band family remains large with over 200 students taking part in our bands and jazz bands!

Thank you for your patience as we navigate this new reality for our bands, choirs, strings, and jazz ensembles at Reynolds Secondary and timetable all of our courses and ensembles. My thanks goes to my teaching partner, Ms. Kerr (choir/strings/musical theatre director), as well as the eight teachers that make up our “Band PE” (Mr. Hudson, Mr. McKean, Mr. Sitar, Ms. Wright) and “Band English” ( Ms. Bolton, Mr. Cunningham, Mr. Gray, Mr. Mallory) backings that support our timetabled band classes!

Ms. Kerr and I have put together a cohesive plan for safety and protocols for the ENTIRE MUSIC PROGRAM in one document.

Please read over the general guidelines and the SPECIFIC ensemble guidelines for the ensembles that  you are a part of in order to know when start up times are, when and where your class will be and to read up on what YOU NEED TO BRING in order to be successful.

Also attached is an extensive schedule for outside of the timetable classes and rehearsals.

Notes for Thursday (Day 1):

Grade 9sWelcome to Reynolds! I look forward to meeting you TOMORROW at 9am – at the entrance to the DARK GREEN ZONE #1 (the first entrance that you will see if parked in the parking lot on Borden Street, across from Lumberworld). You will NOT need an instrument or any musical materials however it would be really helpful if you BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE. After attendance and a brief school tour, we will gather (socially distanced of course) and learn about the band schedule and how the program works. You will also meet Mr. McKean, and Ms. Wright who will teach “Band PE 9.”

Grade 10s, 11s, 12s – N/A Today

Notes for Friday (Day 2):

Grade 9s – Meet at the same DARK GREEN ZONE #1 entrance. You will be attending your Band PE class with Mr. McKean and Ms. Wright today. You do not need PE strip for this class.

Grade 10s – Welcome back to Reynolds! I have missed you! Please meet at the GREEN ZONE entrance (the back door of the band room). You will NOT need an instrument or any musical materials however it would be really helpful if you BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE.

BUT… what about Grade 11/12 Band, the Jazz Bands, Pit Band, Marching Band, Nepalese War-horn Ensemble and Retro-Boogie-Dance-Kazoo-Band, etc?

Please have a look through the 2 attached documents and note the ZOOM meetings that will hopefully clarify things for you. For returning students: at this time, there are changes to the structure of the program but they are not insurmountable. We are all in this together and our musical offerings remain vibrant and diverse at Reynolds!

Please let me know if you have any questions. I will be checking email until… “late”… and will be at Reynolds until… well…  “late” should you wish to contact me. My band office phone number is 250-727-3543.

Thank you for your patience and do take care. I am looking forward to working with you and getting back to a 54 year tradition of music!

Mr. Jamie Davis
