Updates Sept 23 – Choir/Strings/Musical Theatre

Hello everyone!

Thank you for another great week in music, we are finally getting up and running and I am extremely excited about all of our music ensembles this year.

Firstly, I have to say a huge congratulations to ALL of the kids that auditioned for the musical last week. It can be a really scary thing to put yourself out there and audition and I thought we had a remarkable turn out and we saw a lot of talent coming from Reynolds – thank you for being prepared and doing your best. That being said we had 60 students come out for auditions this year…really everyone had something they were good at, but I simply can not have that many students in the cast. So if this is not your year it is likely because your skills may not fit this particular show or because you could work on being a bit more prepared in other areas. Please do not be discouraged if you don’t get in, we need a lot of help with stage crew and no one will be turned away as long as they are willing to work hard. If you have questions about how you can improve for next year, I am happy to schedule an appointment with you and go over your audition. Now that you have been through it, you will know how to be better prepared for next year! Again, a LOT of great auditions, I had my work cut out for me this weekend going through comment sheets, dance videos and your previous experience sheets. I will post the CAST LIST at school and on this Website tomorrow by 9am. Our first cast rehearsal will be this Thursday, Sept 26 right after school. Thank you to our outstanding production team Kanika Jackson, Mr. Davis and Tea Siskin for all of their help during audition week – you are all amazing and I am incredibly lucky to work with all of you!

Senior and Junior Choir also started off strong last week, please ensure you are there on time and getting used to our before and after school rehearsal times. I am really excited to get rolling on choir music, it is going to be a fantastic year of Choral music!

Strings also started up last week, please take note that our rehearsals have now been moved to the Theatre rather than Annex C, and instrument storage is available in the band room.

Vocal Jazz Auditions! I will be doing Vocal Jazz auditions this week, so if you signed up on my door please meet in the band room at lunch on Tuesday this week. You need to have a jazz standard prepared and I will go over a chromatic scale and whole tone scale with you. Not a lot of open spots in the group, but if we have a lot of singers I will see if I can start another small group in Junior Choir

Lots of stuff coming up! Cops 4 Cancer is in full swing at Reynolds, if you can donate to the Reynolds Music team we would be so grateful! If we reach the goal of $2500 we will have a huge group of music students dye their hair blue, if we reach $5000 Mr. Davis and myself will dye our hair blue for the cause! Please consider donating here: http://convio.cancer.ca/site/TR/CopsforCancer/?pg=team&team_id=464864&fr_id=25284

Cops 4 Cancer Bottle Drive – we are still looking for student and parent volunteers to help with our bottle drive. This is our big contribution to the cause each year and we want to make as much as we can to help out our community. Please sign up to volunteer and please come by and drop off any empties you might have saved up. The bottle drive is Saturday, September 28 and the volunteer sign up list is here:  http://volunteersignup.org/DXQY8
